Asunto: Newark airport in New York
NotaPublicado: Vie Jun 20, 2008 7:27 pm
Hi

I´m going to travel to Mexico on holidays. The most economic flight I have found is with a stop over at Newark airport (New York). There is over 1.35 hours between both flights.

Could you tell me something about this airport?.I have heard that there are a lot of police controls and you can be detained without any reason,so I´d lost my next flight. Is all that true?. I´m afraid of going to USA.

Regards

Where are you flying from? If you come from European Union you only need the Visa Waiver form which is issued aboard.

Why are you afraid?

Nobody is going to detain you. Just keep your passport, follow instructions from Inmigration clerk and that's it!

Hi Mariano

Thank you for your answer. Yes, I´m from the European Union. And I will soon get my new passport. I think this is a more modern passport with a chip inside.

Perhaps all the problems are in my mind. But I have heart that in USA the police is very strick with its controls in the airport. what happend if I spent a lot of time in the controls and I would lost my second flight.

And my level of spoken English isn´t very good. Do you think I will have problems for it?

Regards

No problem at all. Your English is so good as mine. I'm Spanish (too?)

Spanish is widely spoken at the airport so be relaxed. You are on transit so the only thing you have to do is to be awake: if your first flight is delayed talk with the plane crew about your connection worries. If they don't mind, run to the Inmigration lane and talk with the officer who watch and organize the lanes. Let him/her know your flight was delayed and you have your connection in X minutes: usually they give you preference and let you pass all the lane.

With the Inmigration officer you only have to be relaxed and always smile. If you are REALLY in a hurry let him/her know.

Take a tour over my website, I have some post about that. Enjoy.

Don't worry, Marisa. I flew into Newark when I visited NYC and yes, there were queues, but it was normal and very efficient. I'm from UK, so sameeal with EU passport. However, this was my final destination, not a changeover, so maybe it took longer. Bear this in mind - Newark is smaller than JFK or another airport you could have changed over on, so lines should be smaller.

Take Mariano's advice if the flight does get in a little late, and other than that just enjoy!

Have fun!!

Thank you for your answers Mariano and BCNDave. I´ve been consulting another forums. People said that some days queves are very long. I will flight on sunday in september. Also I´m not sure if there are special rooms for passengers in transit or I have to pass all the controls, go out and then go in again

By the way Mariano. I´ve been visiting your web.It is very interesting. I will recomend it to other people.
